No boil order issued following repairs to a water main break in Jefferson.

Water Superintendent Tom Schilling says ground conditions caused a water main break around 5pm on Sunday afternoon on Elm Street between Brackett and Park streets.

They left water running in the water main and didn’t completely shut it off to repair it.  Because of that, no boil order was issued.  Schilling points out that they also flushed the water lines and so there shouldn’t be any discoloration in the water.

The Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene with traffic control since the break happened on Iowa Highway 4.  While work was being done, the DOT had one northbound and southbound lanes closed.  Lanes may continue to be closed throughout the rest of the day and possibly into tomorrow as crews are putting sand and gravel on the repair area until concrete can be poured.
