The ADM girls track team continues to prepare for its first outdoor meet of the season Monday at Dallas-Center Grimes, which will be the first meet for which every athlete will be present, as the Tigers had a pair of indoor meets over spring break.

Head coach Bart Mueller told Raccoon Valley Radio earlier this year he expects the Raccoon River Conference title to again be a battle between the Tigers and Boone Toreadors, whom ADM narrowly edged for the conference title last season.

One runner who will have a major say in whether that happens is Tigers senior sprinter Kari Dufoe, a University of South Dakota women’s track commit who holds several school records. And she’s quite familiar with the competition.

Dufoe has been running against Boone twins Bailey and Linsey Schminke, who both rank among the top-five fastest times in the 100m dash in Toreador history, since 7th grade, and said that helps fuel her desire. She also recognizes that repeating as conference champs by edging Boone will take another gargantuan effort.

“I really enjoy running against them, and you always have to have that positive outlook of, ‘Yea, we’re going to take them,’ because if you don’t, what’s there to work for?” Dufoe said. ” I mean, I’m going to tell you that I’m going to take them, and they’re going to tell you that they’re going to take us – it’s like a healthy rivalry.”
