It may not have shown up on the stat sheet, but ADM senior Emily Hofmann’s leadership was a critical component of first-year head coach Corey Schneider’s Tigers girls basketball team.

Hofmann averaged just 2.8 points on 26 percent shooting this past season, but was invaluable in helping bridge the gap between her fellow players and a brand new head coach, acting almost as another assistant coach on the court.

For ADM girls soccer, on the other hand, Hofmann will not only be counted on to provide that same sort of leadership, but also the statistical production to match it.

“I’m really going to be looking for her for leadership this year,” ADM girls soccer head coach Kelsey Dolder said. “She’s a four year player for ADM high school varsity girls soccer, and I think she’s already stepped up big time just in offseason workouts and with her leadership. We’ll be looking for the leadership again this year, and I’m hoping to get her in more goal-scoring opportunities, too.”

Hofmann was second on the team in goals (10) and assists (6) last season, and will be looked toward to fill the void left by Caroline Maher, who lead the Tigers with a whopping 17 goals as a senior last season.

One thing that could potentially hamper Hofmann’s output is the bicep tendinitis she’s been suffering from since late in the basketball season. Of course, Hofmann won’t use her arm in soccer like she would in basketball, but it’s nonetheless painful when she runs and performs other basic movements.

Count Dolder as one who believes Hofmann will grit her way through it.

“Yes, definitely. She is very tough, and already did so during basketball season,” Dolder said. “She loves soccer, and she’ll be ready to step up and she’ll play through the pain.”

Hofmann and the rest of the Tigers open the exhibition season with a scrimmage on Thursday at North Polk.
