Tigers head golf coach Chris Goodale has told Raccoon Valley Radio he expects his boys team to compete for a spot in the state tournament after having narrowly missed out last season.

The talent is undoubtedly there, as is the work ethic. Those positive attributes are only enhanced by the strong bond the golfers share with each other, a less common sight in what is an individual sport.

“They’ve got the drive and they’ve got the ambition. They’re goal-oriented kids and they know what they want to do,” Goodale said. “The nice thing about all of those kids – they are for each other. If they miss an eagle put and their buddy makes it, they’re as thrilled as if they would have made it themselves, so it’s not a cuthroat deal where they want to beat each other. I’ve had teams where if that kid plays well and ‘he beats me, oh, something’s wrong.’

“These kids are for each other. They’re a team. They’re like brothers on the golf course, so it’s a really neat experience.”

The ADM boys golf team’s first competition will be on Thursday, April 9 at the River Valley Golf Course north of Adel against Woodward-Granger and Madrid.
