The winter storm that was expected to drop between 6 to 8 inches of snow on the Raccoon River Valley Thursday, almost missed the area completely. Areas north of Greene County and west of Dallas County saw worse conditions throughout the day but by mid-afternoon the winter storm warning that originally was set to last through 9pm was lowered to a winter weather advisory.

There were flurries much of the afternoon, and the wind attributed to poor visibility in some areas.  The National Weather Service reports that Jefferson and Guthrie Center each received two-inches of snow and Perry had only one-inch.

During the peak of the storm, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported that area roadways were partially covered with snow and ice, though no major accidents were reported.
