The ADM wrestling Tigers enjoyed quite a bit of individual success this past season, sending five wrestlers to the 2015 State Tournament in Des Moines this past weekend, and three came out place-winners.

Head coach Justin Schmauss said he was pleased with the individual success of his top wrestlers, but the team didn’t perform quite as well as he anticipated.

“As far as a team, I had higher expectations,” Schmauss said. “Going into the year , I’d though I’d have a full lineup, and have what I call ‘no holes’ – where there’s no forfeits, and the right varsity guys there, they’re not injured, and that kind of thing. Our season kind of went that direction pretty quickly.

“…As a coach, I always try to do better, always try to find ways to be better, but I’m happy with the outcome.”

The Tigers struggled to fill lighter weights, consistently forfeiting the 106 and 113 pound weight classes. Forfeits at others weights and a lack of depth, among other factors, contributed to a 6-8 regular season duals record and a mixed showing at tournaments.

Schmauss added that he’s excited for next season because of a strong core of returning district and state-qualifying wrestlers, along with a talented group of incoming freshmen that will help fill in the missing lower weights.
