The North Central portion of the City of Perry is under a precautionary boil water notice following repairs that were made to a water main break.

Water Works Superintendent Hank Schmidt says the portion that is affected includes North Street between 4th and 8th streets, 4th Street between North and Park streets and 5th Street between North and Park streets.  As a precaution, residents and businesses in those areas are suppose to boil water for one minute at a rolling boil before consumption or for cooking.

A water main break occurred late Thursday afternoon on North Street near 8th Street.  Crews repaired the break and flushed the lines in the affected area.  As a standard procedure, any time there is a water main break, water samples are submitted for testing for any harmful bacteria that may be in the water.

Residents may also experience discoloration, air or debris in the water.  Schmidt recommends you run water from all faucets and flush all toilets until the water returns to a clear color.  However, until further notice, water must be boiled before using it.
