catholic schools weekIt’s Catholic Schools Week across the nation, and this year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.

Schools all over the country are celebrating this week, including St. Patrick’s in Perry. Principal Doug Latham says this is a good opportunity to recognize and appreciate the students, faculty and staff at the school.

“We are a community school which fosters a strong, educational program, faith and family. We have a very dedicated staff who are committed to the total education of all our students” says Latham.  “During this week we welcome our community to St. Pats to help us celebrate our education foundation and Catholic values.”

Third grade student Kaylee Wuebker says she enjoys attending St. Patrick’s for several reasons.

“You meet lifelong friends, the teachers are nice and give us a good education.  I love the technology, we work on the iPads and computers.  I like going to class every Friday and on the weekends.  I like having a small class size because it means you have friends who will help you if you don’t understand something.  I love starting my day in front of the school by praying together in front of the whole, wide school and saying the pledge of allegiance” says Wuebker.

And fourth grader Angel Mendoza says he too enjoys getting a Catholic based education.

“The great thing about going to a Catholic school is you have great teachers to learn from.  We get to learn about religion, the meaning of prayer, Jesus and God.  You also get the help from other students.  At St. Patricks you meet great friends.  We do a lot of extra stuff and have good activities.”

The observance continues through Saturday and several special activities are planned throughout the week.
