Band students in Perry will have the opportunity to perform with a successful collegiate ensemble next month, and the public is invited as well.

The Iowa State University Jazz Ensemble 2.0 will be in Perry on Monday, February 16th.  Perry Band Director Brandon Weeks says the high school band will play a few selections, followed by several more from the ISU jazz band and perhaps one with the two groups together.

He says it’s a great opportunity for his students.

“To see that level of performance, to understand what it is to be able to perform at that level, these kids have committed some of them up to 14 years of their lives to music and to band and they’re what I would hope most of our kids are shooting for after they graduate from Perry” says Weeks.

Weeks invites everyone to come check out the show.

“If you’ve never seen a college ensemble perform, you should come because they are going to be phenomenal.  (ISU band instructor) Mike Giles is always a hoot.  It’s high level musicianship, with some real good jazz music and sometimes they’ll play some other stuff and crowd pleasers that people will recognize.”

The free concert takes place at 7pm on the 16th in the Performing Arts Center at Perry High School.
