A man that led law enforcement on a chase in Dallas and Boone Counties Wednesday remains at large.

According to the Perry Police Department, 30 year-old Juan Carlos Armeta-Hernandez was stopped for an equipment violation near 1st and Warford Street in Perry around 6:30am Wednesday.

During a routine check, officers found that Armeta-Hernandez had outstanding warrants for Failure to Appear on charges of Domestic Assault and Driving Under Suspension. When officers asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle he fled in the car northbound on 1st Street (Highway 144).  Police followed Armeta-Hernandez as he circled back towards Perry and later abandoned his vehicle in the 2900 block of McKinley Street, near the Rowley Masonic Home construction site.

He was last seen running southwest from his vehicle when officers lost sight of him.  The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Greene County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit assisted in attempting to locate the suspect.  He was tracked to an area near and apartment building about half a mile from his vehicle but officers have not yet been able to locate him.

The police department notified both the masonic home and the Perry High School about the chase as a precaution.  School was not in session, though a practice was occurring at the time of the initial chase.

Chief Eric Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio they do not have reason to believe anyone is in danger.

Charges in relation to the pursuit are still pending.  Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
