The Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Jefferson Police Department will once again participate in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program.

Sponsored by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, during larger holiday times of the year, law enforcement agencies increase their number of officers to look for motorists that are speeding, driving recklessly due to alcohol and wearing their seatbelts.

Deputy Dave Kersey stresses the importance of always wearing your seatbelt.  Not only is it the law, but it can prevent you from getting killed in a crash.  According to the Iowa Department of Transportation in 2013, 317 traffic fatalities occurred in Iowa with more than 43% of them involved the victim not being restrained by a seatbelt.

The sTEP Wave is in effect from today through Sunday, November 30th.
