Jefferson City CouncilThe Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.

The Council approved the first reading to amend its zoning ordinance to add a planned unit development district to allow for more housing options and paying King Construction its fifth and final installment of $16,576.30 for improving the water lines around Hy-Vee, Incorporated,

The Council agreed to pay $14,990 of the almost $30,000 replacement project at the public library for their vertical platform lift and set the project to not exceed $35,000.  Library Director Jane Millard has also raised $18,710 for the project through donations and grants.

The annual Tax Increment Financing report was approved to submit to the state.  City Clerk Diane Kennedy said the City started with a beginning fund balance of $128,747, had $103,374 in revenue but had $534,021 in expenses to end up with a negative $301,900.  She pointed out that the water and sewer improvements along with the development of Hy-Vee were big contributor to the incurred debt which they can start generating TIF money from next year to make up the difference in that account.

The Council decided to table its decision about extending an agreement with McLeodUSA to continue to use its fiber optic cable from the former armory to the Greene County High School due to a discussion about the cable not actually being used by McLeod anymore.

The meeting ended in a workshop with Jefferson Matters: Main Street.  The purpose was to establish communication with both entities and align each priority list and how the Council can help support JMMS and its priorities as an organization.
