Two People Face Felony Charges In Jefferson

Charges have been filed against two suspects for a string of burglaries in Jefferson.

Police Chief Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio 34 year-old Erin Michelle Burnie is charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct, five counts of Class D Felonies for third degree burglary, three counts of second degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor for two counts of third degree theft, serious misdemeanors for fourth degree theft, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and fifth degree in possession of stolen property.

20 year-old Berry Arthur Downs of Nevada is charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct, Class D Felonies for four counts of  second degree theft, five counts of third degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor two counts of third degree theft, serious misdemeanors for fourth degree theft, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and simple misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.

The charges stem from incidents we first told you about last month when several Greene County residents reported they had items and vehicles stolen from their homes since September 1st.  A search warrant was executed on September 26th at 500 East Clark Street after police officers noticed fresh tire tracks were left on the grass from one of the thefts in the 700 block of Cedar Street leading them to where the search warrant was executed.

During the search of the property, officers uncovered stolen scrap metal, tools, tires and rims, three stolen vehicles, (one from Story County), car parts from one of the stolen vehicles along with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Burnie was booked and released from the Greene County Jail and Downs was booked on his charges at the Greene County Jail and he remains in the Story County Jail on separate charges.

Winter Weather Returns This Weekend, Greene County Sheriff Reminds You To Stay Safe

Last weekend was a busy one for the Greene County Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says the first measurable snowfall caused five single-vehicle accidents in the county.

Haupert is thankful that no one was seriously hurt, he reminds everyone to stay safe on the roads during winter time.  He suggests that you drive defensively and be aware of the vehicle in front of you.

When there’s periods of blowing snow that could create white-out conditions, Haupert doesn’t advise people to travel but if you have to, he recommends that you drive a comfortable speed and have your flashers on so that other motorists have an easier time seeing where you are on the road.
A Third Suspect To Face Felony Drug Charges In Jefferson

A third suspect wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Jefferson Police Department is facing several felony charges.

Chief Dave Morlan says 45 year-old Anthony Rothmeyer of Grand Junction is charged with Class D Felonies for his third offense of possession of marijuana and methamphetamine and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from when officers executed a search warrant at 403 North Olive Street on November 15, 2013 for suspected drugs.  The accused was at the residence at the time and the test results from the items that officers recovered from him came in from the Criminalistics Laboratory in Ankeny which is why the police department is filing charges now against him.  Once Rothmeyer is apprehended, Morlan adds that he will be booked and released from the Greene County Jail.

Morlan notes that they’ve already arrested two other suspects in the case.  41 year-old Frederick James Lonsdale of Rippey is accused and charged with a Class C Felony for his third offense for conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, a Class D Felony for his third offense for possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor for his third offense for possession of marijuana and another misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.

33 year-old Heather Thelma Ott of Jefferson is accused and charged with a Class C Felony for her second offense for conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanors for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Fort Dodge Woman Faces Felony Burglary Charges In Jefferson

A Fort Dodge woman faces felony burglary and theft charges in Jefferson.

Police Chief Dave Morlan says a safe was reported stolen from McAtee Tire on August 8th.  Police obtain video surveillance footage of the incident from the business and noticed two males and a female were wearing black clothes, but they couldn’t positively identify the alleged suspects.  One person broke into the business and unlocked a door to allow the others to gain entry.

Morlan states that on November 7th, the Webster County Sheriff’s office contacted them and told them that the stolen safe was recovered from an executed search warrant that they did at 304 South 4th Street in Fort Dodge.  One of the accused suspects was arrested.

Morlan notes that they charged 36 year-old Kylene Suzanne Rabourne with Class D Felonies for second degree theft and third degree burglary.  She is currently being held in the Webster County Jail.

Investigators believe that Rabourne sought out an individual in Jefferson to get new tires put on her vehicle and that’s when they think she was able to surveillance the auto-garage and plan the burglary.

Morlan points out that Rabourne may be connected to a larger burglary operation that involves stolen items being shipped to a location in Arizona.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Auditions Start This Weekend For A Play In Jefferson

The Community Players of Greene County will be holding open auditions this weekend for its next show, “Pools Paradise” by Philip King.

Director Josh Tuel says its a British farce that centers around the characters in a soccer betting pool.  He points out that the reason why the Community Players chose this play to do is because its based off another play they did a couple of years ago by the same author, “See How They Run” which involves some of the same characters.

The auditions for next March’s performances will take place at the Jefferson Masonic Lodge at 4pm on Sunday, November 23rd and 7pm on Monday, November 24th.
