The high school boys’ basketball season opens next week for the Greene County Rams with the varsity taking a pair of lengthy road trips. Coach Jeramie Hinote’s Rams start the 2014-15 season on Dec. 2 in Colfax vs. Colfax-Mingo, followed by a Dec. 5 date in Baxter vs. Collins-Maxwell-Baxter. Both are approximately 90 minutes one-way, and that’s if the weather is good. After those trips, the Rams are home in the middle school gym in Jefferson for four of the final five playing dates in December.

January starts with three straight dates away from home before three straight home dates. Then it’s three in a row away from Jefferson before a stretch of four home games in five playing dates. The regular season ends with the longest trip of the season on Friday, Feb. 13 vs. PCM in Monroe.

Coach Hinote’s team has a wealth of experience with all five starters and eight total players that saw varsity playing time all back. The Rams don’t have a lot of height, but they do possess outside shooting and the ability to run the floor. The coach is looking for improvement on the defensive end, as well as from the free throw line.
