churdanOfficials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have placed a bottled water advisory in effect for the City of Churdan.

DNR authorities say that pressure was lost earlier today when a valve started leaking as the City was trying to hook up with Xenia Water.  The City then lost water pressure for 30 minutes.

Officials recommend residents and businesses use bottled water for consumption, food preparation and similar uses until the DNR receives its water samples back with it being clear of contaminants.  The reason why they don’t want you to boil tap water before using for consumption or food preparation is because the amount of nitrites in the water could make it unsafe to drink.

However, tap water is fine to use for bathing and other uses.

The DNR suggests that you consult the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline for more information at 1-800-426-4791.
