Greene County opens the 2014-15 wrestling season on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in Jefferson vs. non-conference opponents Ogden and Van Meter. The opening to a new season is exciting on its own, but Ram senior Jordan Challen has a little extra incentive. The two-time State Tournament qualifier has 98 career victories as a Ram varsity wrestler, so two more wins, which could happen on Tuesday, would push Challen’s career win total into triple digits. Only a select few Rams that have 100 or more wins in their careers have been this close, or over the century mark, with a whole season yet to wrestle.  Challen is expecting to wrestle at 138 lbs. this season after spending each of the last two seasons at 132.

Two other Greene County wrestlers, senior Abe Yoder and junior Tommy Bradshaw, are in position to top 100 wins for their varsity careers later this season. Yoder has 71 varsity victories and Bradshaw, a two-time State qualifier (once in Missouri and once for the Rams) has 74. Yoder is expecting to be at 132 this season with Bradshaw likely at 145 lbs.

Coach Mark Sawhill told Raccoon Valley Radio that all three have worked extremely hard over their careers and deserve any accolades and milestones that come their way. “We wrestle more matches in a season than we did 30 or 40 years ago, but it’s still quite an accomplishment to reach 100 wins. It takes years of hard work and dedication to reach that point in a wrestling career.”
