jefferson welcomeA notice for Jefferson residents that next week is the city-wide clean up week.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says city crews will pick up different types of materials, along with regular garbage, on your normal pick up day from October 27th through the 30th.

Accepted materials include yard waste which must be placed in biodegradable bags and not in garbage cans.  Stickers are not required during the city-wide clean up week on yard waste containers.  Tree trimmings and other brush are to be staked in arm piles with the cut ends facing the curb so that crews can chip it easier, but whole trees will not be picked up.

Any appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air-conditioning units will be picked up for a $40 fee and metal that it cut into five-feet lengths or smaller will be picked up for free.

Furniture, carpet, padding or windows will be limited to be free hopper loads and anything beyond that, a resident will be charged $25 per hopper load.  The same applies to construction debris and lumber which must be cut into lengths not exceeding five-foot.

Palmer points out that any materials a resident wishes to have the City pick up, must be separated into piles of similar items or it won’t be collected.

Materials must be at the curbside by 6am on your normal collection day to ensure pick up.  Anyone with questions can call City Hall at 386-3111.
