dchThe Dallas County Hospital Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting yesterday morning.

At the meeting they talked about this fall’s flu shot campaign and the “Be Wise Immunize”.  Staff are working to educate people on the recommendation of fist bumping instead of a traditional handshake to reduce the transfer of bacteria.

Dallas County Hospital was also recognized late last month at the Donate Life Conference for having a high Tissue Conversion Rate of 50 percent throughout 2012 and 2013.  This means half of the actual recovered tissue donor patients were medically suitable to donate.

The Board also talked about Respiratory Care Week and staff was educated on radon testing, since an estimated 7 out of 10 homes in Iowa have elevated radon gas levels. It is recommended that everyone tests their home for radon every two years and test kits can be ordered from the Iowa Radon Hotline at 1-800-383-5992.

The trustees will hold their next meeting on December 4th.
