tractor fire locationA tractor fire in Greene County causes severe vehicle damage.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 5:17pm on Thursday, a deputy and the Paton Fire Department responded to a tractor fire between 140th and 150th streets on T Avenue, southwest of Paton.

Haupert states that a 2013 Versatile 375 4-wheel drive tractor was on fire when authorities arrived on scene but that the Paton Fire Department contained the fire and put out the flames which kept the damage isolated to the tractor and not to the liquid manure it was carrying.

Haupert believes the cause of the fire may have been electrical or from debris but it started between the engine and the cab of the vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident including the driver, Larry Joy Jr. of Jefferson.  Estimated damage done to the tractor is $100,000 and it wasn’t totaled.  Haupert points out that the value of the tractor is about $175,000.

The vehicle is owned by Neese, Incorporated of Grand Junction.
