When Homecoming football game opponents are scheduled, many times school officials will try and play an easier team to increase the odds of winning in front of alumni and the home crowd. Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman may want to have a few words with the Activities Director, because Greene County’s opponent at Linduska Field on Friday, Oct. 3 is Class 3A eighth rated Humboldt (4-1, 2-1). The problem with that is Lansman would have to look in the mirror to have that conversation as he is both head football coach and the Activities Director at Greene County High School.

The Wildcats have lost only to number four Carroll High and they have victories over Spencer, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, Boone, and Algona. The five Humboldt opponents have won eight games and lost 17 with five of the eight victories by Carroll.

Greene County is 2-3 overall, but 2-0 in Class 3A District 2. The five opponents the Rams have faced have a combined record of 11-14. This is Homecoming week for the Rams. The annual parade around the downtown square begins at 2 p.m. Friday. The Wildcats and Rams play freshmen football at 4:45 p.m. with varsity kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Coverage Friday night begins at 6:45 p.m.
