The students and staff of the Paton-Churdan School District were involved in their own program to honor that day in history which building principal Annie Smith says it’s important for students to be reminded of what happened that day.

“It was a really touching program.  To not only be able to share with our community but also with our students and our staff and to have some connection to those , honoring those especially from Greene County and the surrounding area and also former Paton-Churdan students.  It’s a really touching event to have happen here.”

On Wednesday, the P-C students lined Iowa Highway 4 to greet a motorcade for the traveling exhibit, “Our Fallen Heroes” that features 80-Iowans who sacrificed their lives in the War on Terror, will now be at the P-C School until September 18th.  The memorial was accompanied by the Greene County Sheriff’s office, the VFW and Churdan Fire and Rescue.

Smith describes how proud she is of her students and their participation in Wednesday’s event.exhbit pic 2

“It was wonderful.  It always makes me very proud that our students understand the honor that we need to give to the heroes and especially those fallen heroes.  And so just the fact that they are aware and that they really understand the importance of that really makes me proud.”

Churdan Library Director Sherri Minnehan says the “Remember Our Fallen” exhibit is open to the public from now until Thursday, September 18th from 4-7pm.

A reminder that a special program to honor the five soldiers from the area who lost their lives defending our country’s freedom on the War on Terror will be on September 18th at the P-C School at 7pm.
