Guthrie County CourthouseLast week, Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright addressed the Board of Supervisors about courthouse security and conducting a security training with courthouse employees.

He states that they currently have some entrances to the courthouse that aren’t accessible to the public and they have an officer at the courthouse at all times.

Plus they have an alarm system in each county office that can communicate with the sheriff’s office dispatchers.

“Comes right down here to our office where the dispatchers sit and tells us exactly what office it is and the dispatcher can notify us and/or notify the courthouse security and he can go right to that room.”

Arganbright asked the Supervisors if he could train all courthouse employees on their Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate or ALICE training to simulate real active shooter situations like with what happened at the Jackson County Courthouse earlier this month.

Arganbright believes more security could be coming to the courthouse like metal detectors, but he feels that right now the courthouse is the most secure that it’s ever been.

“That’s what we’re working towards, if we have to.  We do a little bit at a time.  I feel that we’re on the right track.  I feel our courthouse is as secure as it’s ever been.”

The Supervisors agreed that an ALICE training sessions would be necessary so that all employees understand what the correct procedure is for active shooter situations.
