Greene County SheriffVehicle catches fire and leads to an arrest in Greene County.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 9:55pm on Friday, the Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Churdan Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of 130th Street.

Haupert states that 30 year-old Joshua Harold Gingery of Slater was traveling on 130th Street when he lost control of his 2000 GMC Envoy and it went into a ditch and when he tried to get his vehicle back out of the ditch, it caught fire.

Haupert believes the fire started underneath the engine area and the cause may have been mechanical.  After the flames were extinguished and an investigation was done, Gingery was arrested for his first offense for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and failure to maintain control.

Haupert notes that no one was injured in the incident and the GMC Envoy was reported to be a total loss.
