In addition to casting their vote to decide who will represent us in various bodies of government this November, Dallas County residents will also have two bond referendums on the ballot.

Both referendums are in regards to building new county facilities, with a total cost of more than $28 million.

If passed by the voters, the new Dallas County jail and law enforcement center would be built in the Ortonville area of Adel, east of downtown.  While the county administrative building would be constructed west of the Raccoon River and north of Highway 6 in Adel.

Both projects will result in tax increases for residents in Dallas County.  The law enforcement center project is estimated at $16.3 million, or $0.25 per $1,000 of valuation.  The administration facility cost is not to exceed $11.8 million or $0.19 per $1,000 of valuation.  This means someone who owns a $100,000 home for example, would see a $44 tax increase each year, if approved by voters.

Both referendums will need to pass in November in order for the projects to move forward.
