ADMOn a dreary night that included a lightning delay, the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn football was able to compile a monstrous effort in the second half of its game against Perry for the win, 15-9.

The first half was like a chess match between the two schools, as both team were feeling each other out.  ADM end up with seven offensive possessions which resulted in five punts and one interception thrown by new starting quarterback in junior Frank Weiland.  Perry, likewise, had seven offensive possessions which resulted in four punts and a 25-yard field goal by Ivan Garcia near the end of the first half which gave Perry a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Then the game picked up tempo when ADM, on the ensuing kickoff to start the second half, recovered a fumble which put the Tigers in their best field position on the Bluejay 30-yard line.  ADM used only six plays capped off by a 16-yard touchdown pass from Weiland to senior wide-receiver Jake Sloss in the back corner of the endzone and the extra point added in by Jonathan Reel gave the Tigers their first lead of the game 7-3.

The Tigers thought they would strike gold again after another miscue on the next ensuing kickoff to Perry when a Bluejay fumbled it back to ADM, putting them on Perry’s 25-yard line.  However, Perry’s defense turned the Tigers back and forced them to punt after a three-and-out.

Perry got the ball back near the end of the third quarter, when their second offensive possession of the second half went 80 yards capped off by a 24-yard touchdown run by Perry quarterback Will Whiton with 1:24 left in the third.  The game was then delayed due to lightning for 30-minutes.

Following the delay, ADM couldn’t come up with an answer on its next possession and had to punt it back to Perry.  Whiton then threw an interception to Joe Sloss with 9:36 remaining in the game.  That gave momentum back to ADM which took its next drive from their own 30-yard line and went 70 yards for its second score from a one-yard run by Weiland and then a two-point conversion from a pass by Weiland to Jacob Hardy made it 15-9.

Then in the closing minutes, Whiton threw his second interception to Joe Sloss which stopped momentum for the Bluejays and they couldn’t muster another scoring drive, bringing the final score to 15-9 in favor of ADM.

Perry ended up with 305 total yards of offense with 120 rushing yards led by Whiton who had 25 carries for 98 yards and one touchdown.  The Bluejay quarterback also threw for 175 yards on 9-of-26 passing and had two interceptions.  The leading receiver was senior Bake Jans who had three receptions for 76 yards.

As for ADM, they had 232 yards of total offense with 128 rushing yards led by junior Blake Crannell who had eight rushing attempts for 69 yards and Weiland chipped in with 25 carries for 29 yards and one touchdown.  Weiland also scored a touchdown threw the air on 10-of-21 passing for 104 yards.  The leading receiver was Jake Sloss with three receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown.

The Tigers next game will be against Ballard on Friday, September 5th.
