guthrie county fairThis year marks the 156th Guthrie County Fair and stands as a small tribute to rural families for their contribution and hard work.

Ron Benton, Guthrie County Fair Board Director at Large, has been in this position for 30 years and lives in Guthrie Center.  He also showed several exhibits when he was in 4-H.

Benton states what he sees is different for this year’s fair, “One thing, we just tore down the old grandstand this summer and we got the new one across the way and we’re working on the new community building to get it finished. In the livestock and 4-H area, the pig and cattle numbers keep getting less and less and in the smaller projects like the rabbits, poultry and ducks, those numbers keep expanding and I think there are over 300 and some chickens this year at the Fair.”

Benton adds that he is thankful for the junior directors that are coming on board because they have been an outstanding help and are really learning to take over for the seasoned directors like himself.
