AmericanFlagThe City of Guthrie Center says it has received word from Bubba Sorensen that he will be in town this Friday to begin painting Guthrie County’s Freedom Rock.

The rock will be located in the park across from the Guthrie County Fairgrounds.

The Guthrie County Arts Council was responsible for raising the funds to commission Sorensen to complete the Guthrie County Freedom Rock this year, and organization member Debbie Menning says many residents from around the county are filled with intrigue to see what Sorensen comes up with in the days ahead.

“We’ve had combat veterans in the county submit their stories about their experiences in serving our country, and it’s just been amazing to hear those stories.  We’re excited to see how Bubba is going to take those stories and convey them in his painting on the rock.  We’ll just be thrilled whenever he is here and whenever he gets it finished.”

Sorensen is currently completing the Marion County Freedom Rock in Knoxville this week before heading to Guthrie County .

We’ll interview Sorensen tomorrow on Let’s Talk Guthrie County, and you can hear from the artist himself as he describes what his next painting will entail.  That conversation will air during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on K107.
