Faced rated teams is nothing new for Greene County softball coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams. In fact, with the fifth game of the postseason coming up Thursday night, all the Rams have faced is rated teams. The Class 3A tournament trail began with a 10-0 win in six innings in Wall Lake at number 11 East Sac County. Then came a 14-2 win in six innings vs. number 10 Sergeant Bluff-Luton in Sergeant Bluff. The regional final saw Greene County win in Battle Creek vs. number four Sioux Center by a 12-3 score, and the state tournament quarterfinal on Monday had Coach Kennedy’s team triumph 2-0 over sixth rated Center Point-Urbana. The unranked Rams are 28-7 and they’ve won 16 of their last 18 games.

Next up is last seasons’s state runner-up, number three Clarke (Osceola). The Lady Indians went unbeaten in winning the South Central Conference title and they are 25-8 overall after winning 13-0 in three innings in the quarterfinals vs. Spirit Lake. Clarke is making its third state softball appearance. Carley Robins and Libby Bemis both were named to the 3A all-tournament team following the 2013 state tournament. The team features five seniors in its starting lineup, including Bemis, who is 24-3 with an earned run average just over one run per game. She threw a three inning perfect game vs. Spirit Lake. Seven of Clarke’s eight losses are to 4A and 5A teams.

Clarke and Greene County meet in the semifinals at Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Coverage on KG98 begins just after 7 p.m.
