The last loss of a season is almost always difficult, and that was the case last Friday in Harlan when Greene County dropped a 3-0 decision to sixth ranked Harlan Community to end the season with 11 wins and 15 losses. For seniors Zach Fouch and Wes Tipton, the game was the last one of their high school careers.

On the bright side, junior pitchers Colton Fitzpatrick and Riah Nelsen both had low earned run averages, and both return. Fitzpatrick had a 5-3 record with a 2.08 ERA, while Nelsen went 3-5 with an ERA of 2.39. Opponents had low batting averages against both right handers with a .171 opponents BA for Fitzpatrick and .174 opponents BA for Nelsen. They also had similar numbers in strikeouts and walks. Nelson fanned 55 batters and walked 10, with Fitzpatrick getting 52 K’s while giving up 15 bases on balls.

The pair of pitchers should give the Rams a good foundation on the mound for 2015.
