unnamed-7The Panora Fire Department along with Guthrie Center Fire and Panora EMS responded to a house fire earlier today in the northwest corner of Panora.

According to Fire Chief Matt Harmann, crews reported to the scene at around 11am to see the house at 311 Northwest 3rd Street totally engulfed in flames.

Six fire trucks were used by more than 30 fireman to fight the blaze for over an hour, and crews stayed on scene until after 1 o’clock to monitor the condition of the home.

Harmann says no one was injured in the fire but its cause and the location of where it started in the home is unknown at this time.

The owner of the now devastated home has been identified as Bill McDermott, but it was being rented by Linda and Jeremy Helms. Helms says the family left the house at about 10:45am to go to the local Casey’s and by the time they returned, the whole house was on fire.

Panora Police Chief Matt Reising says the last major house fire in the town occurred about six years ago.
