Monday and Tuesday, participants and the public took part in the finale of the Greene County summer reading program with magician Jonathan May.

The Waukon-native magician traveled to each of the six county libraries where everyone got to enjoy the program’s final event and learn about how science relates to magic through this year’s theme of “Fizz. Boom. READ”.

Jefferson Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says 3,778 books were read by 90 kids.  Andrea Grundon was the grand prize winner and she will be able to select a new bicycle, Hannah Acton-for the second consecutive year-read the most books with 172.

Other winners included Cody McCollom and Brayden Kokenge were the winners of the robot drawing and KyAnn Fowler, Gavin VanderLinden and Marcus Rosenow were the display case drawing winners.

“And the kids had a great time doing the science experiments.  They have done an amazing job for a little bit shorter program.  We had some speakers and performers come in this year that were really, really good.  Lots of great sponsorship through our community businesses and organizations.  Just amazing, we’re very, very thrilled.”

Those that helped to contribute to this year’s summer reading program included    Breadeaux Pizza, Dairy Queen, Excuses Pizza, Pasta, & Subs, Fareway, Greene County Board of Supervisors, Home State Bank, Junction Hilltop Farm, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Pizza Ranch, Wells Fargo Bank and Friends of the Jefferson Public Library.
