adelThe public is invited to weigh in on a proposed intergovernmental agreement between the City of Adel and Dallas County next month.

A public hearing has been set for 6pm May 13th in the council chambers of the Adel City Hall.  At this time, residents are welcome to voice their questions, comments or concerns about the proposed 28E agreement in regards to site selection, acquisition and preparation of building a county administrative building.

The agreement would create a new entity called that Adel-Dallas County Public Corporation, consisting of Mayor Jim Peters and Board of Supervisors Chairman Kim Chapman.  The duo would be responsible for selecting the site location, determining economic feasibility of the site, acquiring personal and real property by both voluntary and condemnation with powers of eminent domain and deeding the property to the County.

The agreement also lists a financial contribution from the City’s tax increment financing fund for real estate acquisition and the sharing of legal, clerical and administrative custodial responsibilities as proposed by the County.

In addition, the agreement states that the City of Adel will cooperate with Dallas County in bringing infrastructure and utilities for the County’s proposed public safety building and jail at the east Adel, or Ortonville, location.  The council would also be expected to pass a resolution approving the site for the public safety building.
