droughtOverall drought conditions improved for much of Iowa this week, but there are still no major changes in the Raccoon River Valley area.

The National Climatic Data Center still classifies the majority of Greene County as in a severe drought, most of Guthrie County as in a moderate drought and almost all of Dallas County as abnormally dry.

The good news comes from the National Weather Service as all three of our local reporting areas received a decent amount of precipitation this week.

Perry received more than 2 inches of rain this week alone, while Jefferson and Guthrie Center saw around 1.75 inches.

That brings the monthly total to 2.26 inches for Perry, 2.15 for Jefferson and 2.03 for Guthrie Center.

All three areas typically see between 3 and one-third inches to three and three-quarter inches.
