house fire north of CaseySeveral area fire departments had to battle a house fire outside Casey Saturday night while Guthrie County was under a severe weather warning.

According to Casey Fire Chief Jeff Larson, his department was assisted by Adair, Menlo and Stuart Fire, along with Stuart Rescue and Adair County Ambulance in fighting the blaze at 2143 340th Street about a mile north of downtown Casey shortly after 8pm Saturday night.

Larson says crews were then on scene for about three hours.  Though he is unsure how the fire started, Larson says flames were initially recognized in the home’s garage before they spread throughout the house.  The homeowners were able to evacuate themselves, their pets and a few personal items from the home.

Larson says the home is a total loss.

According to Guthrie County Assessor’s Office real estate records, the home belongs to Terry and Catherine Nelson.  The American Red Cross was contacted to help assist the residents.

Stuart Fire Chief Mike Renslow says one of his firefighters did sustain an injury while fighting the house fire.  The individual was transported to Adair County Hospital by Adair Rescue and released after treatment late Saturday night.
