shopwithacopMore than two dozen Perry families will be able to enjoy a very merry Christmas thanks to the Shop with a Cop program.

Saturday police officers, dispatchers, firefighters, EMTs and other personnel took children from 28 local families shopping for gifts for themselves and their families. Detective Jerome Hill with the Perry Police Department says shopping day is always a fun one for everyone involved.

“The kids come in and do their Christmas lists and then we end up taking them shopping.  So we take them shopping throughout Perry, once they’re done we come back (to the elementary school) and they wrap their gifts.  We wrap every gift, we don’t take gifts home without them being wrapped, and then they have a pizza party and get some nice other gifts and go home” says Hill.

Hill says this program is just more proof that the Perry community supports each other and they couldn’t do it without the help of local residents.

“It was great.  You know, it was a good year, we had a lot of good donations and the donations from the community just help to emphasize what we can do with this program.  It’s not just about shopping with a cop, it’s about showing that we can help each other around Christmas time.”
