Head-On Collision In Greene County Claims the Life of a Scranton Man

Jacob Mariah Taggart, 25 of Scranton was killed in a head-on collision this morning on Highway 30 east of Grand Junction.

At 7:09am, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and Jefferson Fire Department responded to a 911 call at Highway 30 near W Avenue.

Chief Deputy Jack Williams reports that Taggart had crossed the centerline of Highway 30 for unknown reasons and struck a semi-tractor trailer driven by Vitor Marquez, 29 of Newark, New Jersey head-on.  Chief Williams comments that Taggart was pronounced dead at the scene and Marquez was transported to the Greene County Medical Center with injuries and was later released this morning.

He states that the investigation is being handled by the Iowa State Patrol.  The portion where the accident occurred on Highway 30 and County Road P-46 was closed since 7am and will be open later today.
